The Maxfrag Ventrilo is the latest technology in Voice over Internet Protocol communication solutions with several versions compatible with the leading operating systems out in the market today.
Despite the program’s versatility, many users may encounter technical difficulties not necessarily connected with the software but with the operating system they are currently running on. This is specifically a common scenario for Windows XP users.
For Windows XP users encountering problems when using the Ventrilo application, it is crucial to make sure that the correct client version is running on the system. Ventrilo is currently offered for Mac OS X 10.4 and higher and Windows XP, Vista, and 7 in 32bit and 64 bit.
One common issue is that Maxfrag's Ventrilo takes a long time to minimize in the XP OS. A quick workaround for this would be installing XP service pack 1. If this does not do the trick, disable the visual theme features under the Ventrilo properties. Similarly, enabling the “Use DirectInput to detect Hotkey” has been an effective solution.
Although Ventrilo was initially programmed with Windows NT4, the XP version has been developed so users are no longer required to run on compatibility mode as they interfere with the applications' capability to function well.
Running a server on XP Pro requires the firewall feature to be activated by enabling port 3784 for both UDP and TCP. For firewalls that do not have these options, the UDP and TCP entries need to be created into the firewall.
More information on troubleshooting for Ventrilo is available at www.maxfrag.net.
